Cosmetic surgery has, for years, been considered a woman’s domain. That is definitely no longer the case. More and more men have been opting to have enhancements and rejuvenation treatments. Perhaps the biggest difference is what is considered a desirable outcome. For example, while a woman may be seeking a soft, feminine profile and a smoothly contoured, shapely chin, a man usually prefers a stronger chin with a more chiseled look. Also, the amount of downtime after a procedure is often a major consideration for many male patients. With that in mind, here are some of the more popular treatments and how they might meet these common expectations.
Skin care is just as important for men as it is for women. Fine lines, age spots, and large pores can contribute to the appearance of advanced aging. Good skin care and skin care treatments including skin resurfacing can help reverse some of these signs of aging.
Injectable facial fillers, like Juvéderm and Restylane can restore lost volume in the cheeks or smooth nasolabial folds (the deep wrinkles from the outside of the nostrils to the corners of the mouth). These injections are done in the office and can take less than 15 minutes. There may mild temporary redness at the injection site following the treatment, but there is no actual downtime required. You can return to work or other activities without delay.
BOTOX is another type of minimally invasive treatment. BOTOX works quite differently. Used most often to reduce wrinkles between the brows or reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, BOTOX relaxes the muscles that create theses creases and lines. The result of correctly injected BOTOX can be a subtle improvement, taking years off your appearance, and looking completely natural. There are other brands of “Botox” including Xeomin and Dysport.
Upper eyelid surgery, called an upper blepharoplasty, corrects droopy eyelids, making you look more alert, awake, and refreshed. Lower blepharoplasty reduces puffiness, bags and wrinkles below the eye. The downtime is typically five to seven days.
Neck lifts, which handle jowls, turkey neck and a double chin are also very popular for our male patients. The downtime can be two to four weeks, depending on whether a mini lift or a traditional lift is performed.
